Warm Up: The Power of Books

Book: Brain Rules

Setup:
1. When you think of brain scientists, what do you think of?
2. For a college professor, what is the typical audience?
3. I expect all of my students to care about certain things: attention, memory, sleep, and stress are some of those things.
4. I'm about to play a video of a brain scientist explaining what he knows about X, what do you expect him to do?

Play a video of one of his Brain Rules.

Assignment Instructions- Find Two Errors

Purpose: To increase awareness of personal error patterns.
Purpose 2: To begin to create a "personal error list" to identify patterns of error and plan a strategy for improving them.

In order to prepare for the final examination in this course, review your own work during the term and look for patterns.

What are two errors that you have committed in previous essay assignments?

For each error, explain three things.

a. Explain the rule that is being violated.
b. Type the sentence (or paragraph) where the error occurs.
c. Type the fixed sentence.   Prove that you understand how to correct it.
